@sushicrow--80 (or the other options under 'maximum Sim count') is not the save file's total population, it's the number of favourite Sims you have set. as in, those in 'my households', which are protected from culling. if you remove the heart from, say, Bob, the count will go down to 2, since you'll now have 2 protected Sims, and Bob will go back to 'other households'.
moving a Sim there doesn't delete them right away (you'd need to do this in CAS, or from manage households itself, for it to be immediate), but if they're not living in a house and are unplayed, the game might cull them. any Sim you've favourited, however, is safe.

@unseenlarks Thanks for the explantion - I never wanted them protected. The game automatically favoited those families, I never moved those fams, it was done by the game after I edited their clothing, or in the case of Panackes, deleted Eliza. I didn't notice the game did that. I wouldn't mind if many of them were culled. I just wanted to make cosmetic changes.

I wish the game wouldn't auto-fave any sims I edit, don't remember it always being like that, it's good to know - let the culling begin! 🙂

@crinrict Thanks for letting me know you can't see the total without mods. I don't like using population mods, but I may, too many sims for my tastes recently.
