I am also not getting candidates for roommates. I have only had one sim show up, but I turned her away because she was a klepto. It has been several days since the ad was placed. I’m not sure if the roommate process is designed to take this long or if there is a problem somewhere.
I have enough space, beds, desks, chairs, bathrooms, side tables, and dressers for four roommates after assigning rooms/beds to the two sims in the household and their butler. I have a pet bed for my cat and two extra pet beds. I also have a separate kitchenette (along with two full kitchens) that roommates could use which contains a fancy fridge, coffee pot, and microwave. The house is also loaded with games and skill items. Roommates would have access to basically EVERY cool thing this game has!
So, after I closed the game for the night, I realized that I have the “private residence” lot trait. I also have three ghosts and a butler who reside with my one-cat-and-two sim household, so maybe there are already too many beings on the lot? Do you have ghosts or a private residence lot trait by any chance?
The next time I play, I’m going to change the lot trait to see if that helps. If it doesn’t help, I’ll release the ghosts as a test to see if there are possibly too many “extras” on the lot. I’ll let you know if anything helps!
Here’s my system/game info:
PS4: 1.20.101.3400 (64 bit)
English
EXPANSION: Island Living, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats & Dogs, City Living, Get Together, Get to Work, Island Living, Discover University
GAME: Strangerville, Jungle Adventure, Parenthood, Vampires, Dine Out, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat, Realm of Magic
STUFF: Moschino, Bowling Night, Vintage Glamour, Kids Room, Romantic Garden, Movie Hangout, Spooky, Cool Kitchen, Perfect Patio, Luxury Party
FREE: Holiday Celebration, Ghoulish Guitar
@Rae_Regenbogen Yes, I would try taking down the ad, remove the private dwelling lot trait, and unlock the front door, and probably evict the ghosts.
Make sure that you have a bed on-site for each of the pets, each baby, and any toddler (even if they have a bassinet/toddler bed), and for Servo, plus beds assigned to each resident including the butler. I would then make the space for the roommate to include a room with plenty of elbow room, no moo placement of objects, a dresser, a desk, and a bedside table. These items seem to keep them happy and give them the proper surfaces to place their crap - or they will get mad.
They also enjoy a coffee maker, stereo, TV and couch in the living room, and mine love the gamepad. Also, if you make ice cream and drag it to the fridge, they love that. A butler helps tons with keeping them happy and picking up after them. I ran my household with 5 sims, 2 pets, 1 butler and 3 roomies at once fine. The butler doesn't count, and roomies can add two more slots to the 8 sims max.
Adding a mini fridge in the kitchen (along with the regular fridge) seemed to help me get them to eat. When they bring dishes home of food, drag those to the fridge. They prefer to eat from those. Also, if you add a talking toilet and the highest quality tub they seem far more likely to 'use the facilities' in your home and not bug out and walk around miserable doing the pee-pee walk and grubbed out because they need to leave the lot to go pee, shower, or eat. <sigh>
Now put your ad back up. 🙌
Good luck!! The 'roomemates' code needs some love. I look forward to this.

@SheriGRI have only just recently added Discover University so I am very new to the roommate experience. I'm playing a single YA Sim and I added two dorm-style rooms, plus one additional bathroom, to her house. I asked an NPC (homeless) friend to be a roommate and everything seems to be working fine with her so far.
When she comes home from school she'll hang out in her room, watch TV/ listen to the stereo in the living room, or read books. She's eating regular meals I put in the refrigerator and she'll use either of the bathrooms in the house (it's fine I don't care which one she uses) instead of leaving. It's only been a few days but she seems happy enough so far. I guess we'll see how it goes. I'm doing all of this on a test save so if everything works great then yay for me, but if not, well live and learn I guess.
I ran an ad for a second roommate but no applicants so far. It's only been a couple of days and my Sim has been off lot several times. After reading your posts at least now I know a few things to try if more time goes by without any applicants showing up. Thanks! :D

@RandomBuzziness I look forward to hearing of your continued experiences with your roommates! It sounds like you have a great start in that you have them comfortable, happy, and interacting well to fill their needs! 🙌

@SheriGR Hi Sheri 🙂 It's been four weeks in my roommate experiment and still no applicants to my roommate-wanted ad, so that part hasn't been going well. For the roommate that I asked directly everything is still going great! She seems to be using only the items on my lot to fill all of her basic needs, i.e. eating, sleeping, using the toilet, taking showers, staying entertained. The only time she leaves the lot is to go to school or to fetch a friend and come back. Several times she has autonomously formed a group with my Sim and tags along to another location. She'll often clean up after herself even though she does not have the Neat trait. She has not made a single complaint in 4 weeks.
- She sleeps in her designated bed every night. It's just a dorm-style single bed, nothing fancy.
- She always eats meals from the refrigerator that were prepared by my Sim. She never cooks or brings back meals from off-lot
- She'll use the toilets just fine and never does the I-need-to-pee-really-bad walk to an off-lot location. They are medium-quality toilets that have been upgraded by my Sim.
- Same with the showers, she'll use them before she gets the green fog of funk. These are also medium-quality with at least one upgrade.
- The two showers in the house are identical, except for that one has 1 upgrade and the other has 2 upgrades. She always uses the shower with 2 upgrades.
It's just a starter home in Willow Creek that I modified to include two additional dorm-style bedrooms and one additional bathroom. So that is three beds total for just 2 current occupants, my Sim and one roommate. The bedrooms have DU build/buy furnishings, a single bed, bed stand, desk (with medium-grade computer), and a dresser. Having the upgrades to the toilet and shower really seems to be making a difference as they are not high-end fixtures but my current roommate uses them just fine & seems happy enough with everything else.
I don't know if the Willow Creek location is an issue with getting applicants to my roommate-wanted ads? I can't imagine that it's anything to do with furniture. I do get random NPC Sims who will knock on the door but they are not tagged as potential roommates. I think they are just random NPC strangers. My regular NPC friends still visit as usual.
This is a no-mod, no-CC test save.
@finelinetracksix love you heaps!
