Putting military medals in display case after moving

I have a problem with the military medals, and so far, Google search hasn't yielded a result so I hope any of you can help.

Two of my Sims have completed the military career, have collected all ten medals and displayed them proudly in their house in Del Sol Valley.

Eventually, the house became too small once they decided to have kids, so I had them move to a bigger house. They brought everything along including the display cases and the medals which went into the general household inventory. Once the Sims had settled into their new home, I placed the medals on the floor in front of the display so the Sims could pick them up and transfer them to the display cases. This had worked in Del Sol Valley after the display cases were moved to the upper floor, so I figured this is the way to do it in a new home, too.

However, it didn't work. The Sims wouldn't pick up the medals. Instead, I got a message telling me that "This item doesn't belong to this Sim". It doesn't make any sense. They were able to display those medals in Del Sol Valley after they moved there from Strangerville. The only difference between that move and the second one was that they hadn't completed the military career yet and hence didn't own all ten medals.

It doesn't make sense, and like I said, I haven't found a solution yet. Is there any way to fix this? I'd really like them to be able to show off those medals in their new home, too, I mean, they worked really hard to get them.

  • Jehane40  Here's how to (try to) recover a backup:

But if it's been too long, your backups might be too recent to help.

If you can get the items into your sims' inventories, they can gift them (Seasons) to the other sim, at which point the items will be owned by that other sim again.  Putting the items in the household inventory and then back on the ground might help as well.  And a klepto sim should be able to swipe the items, if all else fails.

Thank you! I'll try and let one of the kids pick up those medals to gift them to the parents, maybe that works :) I think those older saves might be lost because I keep overwriting the current save but I'll try the gift thing. It did work with other stuff, after all - when the oldest kid left for college, she didn't take any of her stuff with her, and when she finished college, she moved into her own apartment. To get her old stuff (cheerleader's trophy and such), I had to move it into her dad's inventory so he could gift it to her. Worked like a charm :)

  • Jehane40  Try moving the sims again (revert to a backup save if you have to), but first put the medals in the sims' personal inventories.

Thanks! Do you think I do that without a backup save? It's been a while since I had my Sims move out and into the larger home, I'm not even sure I have a backup save - my computer had to be re-installed a while ago after an update more or less killed it, and old saves aren't showing up in my gallery any more.
