Putting wheelchairs in the sims

@Naff0nz0, I don't work for EA, but some EA employees are often reading posts on this site and sometimes answering them.  However, most of us helpers are volunteers.  

The truth is, nobody knows if they will add wheelchairs or other disabilities to the game.  A while back, one of the Sims Gurus had tweeted that they were considering it. 😎 I think they were talking to people with disabilities to see how they would feel about such a thing in a game, and if they were for it, what they should include and what they shouldn't include.  But this was just considering the possibility of adding this to the game.  There has been no further word on them going ahead and doing it.  🤨

Keep in mind the problems with adding certain disabilities to the game.... wheelchairs would have to be made for every age group (with all the different heights), and for every outfit, in every type of weather, etc.  This could create a lot of traffic flow problems in the game, as well as graphic issues.  They would have to address how other Sims could physically act with the Sim in the wheelchair, including toddlers and pets! They would have to add either elevators or chair lifts in addition to ramps.  All of the animations would have to be redone!  And this is a ton of work and it only addresses just one disability! 😞 

Which leads to the next point in that how many disabilities should they add? 🤔 No matter how many they add, there will always be people who are upset they didn't add a certain one to the game! 😢  I've seen people ask for blind Sims, deaf Sims, mute Sims, Sims with Cerebral Palsy, conjoined twin Sims, asthmatic Sims, as well as other types of Sims! 

Also, some people with disabilities don't want this in the game, either for fear of players using it to make fun of them, or just because they like to play the Sims to escape from their disability.  Then again, a lot of other people with disabilities want the game to reflect their lives.  There is no easy answer!  (Most Simmers fall either on the side of wanting the game to reflect reality, while the other side wants the game to escape from reality, as seen in the people who wanted laundry vs. the people who prefer vampires! 😃 )

Either way, EA would have to do a whole bunch of extra work to do this right!  🤨  I think it is a better idea if they made a stand-alone game like the Sims, but only focusing on disabilities, or perhaps if they ever make a TS5, they might have an easier time making it fit into that, since they can sort of create the possibilities for the animations and such that would come with a future disability pack.  I think this would be much harder to do this far into TS4. 😉

I think younger players with disabilities might prefer it in the game, while older players with disabilities might prefer to leave it out. That is what I have seen from other people who have posted on this subject.  Of course, there are always exceptions! 😃
