Re: Can’t hire or promote employee to manager

@ackyboy Can you please clarify if you are running/own a Retail Store or Restaurant where you are seeing this issue. Can you include screenshots of the options you do see for the employee?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly, but if the establishment is a restaurant, your active owner Sim is the manager.

If it's a retail store, the owner Sim is also the manager. The top position a Sales Associate can be promoted to is 'Executive Sales Associate'. Please refer to this very helpful Carls Guide on Retail: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/expansionpacks/gettowork/retail/employees.php

However, there are 'perks' that you can earn/choose that will help with management, number of employees you can hire, customer behavior and more. For a retail store your owner Sim needs to be on the lot to open the store. With Dine Out (owning a restaurant) the restaurant can be opened remotely (while your Sim is not on the lot), but if they want to manage it the Sim will need to be on the lot.

  • Hi sorry I run a retail and sell cakes and tht in same building. I thought you could hire a manager to run so I didn’t have to be there all time. So how do I own a restaurant? And can a sim manage a restaurant while I can stay home ? Thanks. Will send pic when I turn on

@ackyboy  To own and run a restaurant you need the "Dine Out" pack. You should be able to find quite a bit of information on what that involves at the links in my last comment. If you buy and run a restaurant you will need to have your Sim be there and manage it while encouraging and training employees, etc. until you get to a point where the restaurant is running smoothly with little need for interaction to be able to just open it from home and not need to show up much to manage it. Even then you should show up sometimes to manage it.

I have also run a retail store with a large household of skilled, adult Sims where I had one go there and open it (you have to have the store as your live and active lot to have it open). Then from the retail store I have brought household Sims to the retail lot and sent others home or to work and have left it open for days doing this. If I had anything I needed done, I brought them to the lot to do it (ie - child care, having a student do homework, feeding children, etc.). While you're on the retail lot you will still see all of the household Sims at the bottom of the window and having them come to the lot, care for self, go home, etc. are options for each  by clicking their thumbnail pic.
