@JaxCat68You can do parts of your build at different heights with platforms. Foundation, on the other hand, will be applied to an entire building.

Horses can't go up steps, so yes, if you want the barn and house connected you can't use foundations. But you can raise & lower platforms on a per room basis, so you could still use platforms to give variety and even to create a deck or porch.
