I'll be doing this too. I think I've given it enough time. It's just not related to anything about the Sim at all. It doesn't link to their aspirations, career, interests or skills. It's also frustrating that you can't delete them like you could delete whims until you get one more suitable. Mine is getting Wants to flirt with a married Sim and has "fear of a dead end job" stuck permanently even though she's an athlete and everything she does is sporty.

I'm leaving it on, but I've modded the absolute expletive out of it.
1. a mod to make them less frequent
2. a mod to completely disable Fear of Unfulfilled Dreams, Fear of Dead-End Job, and Fear of Death
3. two separate Want replacement mods.
As constructive feedback to the team:
I can see a lot of potential in the system, but I really want the Wants to be more closely related to the Sim's aspiration and traits, and the fears to be harder to get. Some of the Wants can be incredibly repetitive in a vanilla game. That said, I had a child who developed Fear of the Dark and I enjoyed making him confident and sending him outside! I also cured my spellcaster of her Fear of Fire and found that satisfying. Unfortunately, the three Fears I've disabled are also incredibly repetitive and it's just not fun to "regain passion" every single time you go to work, and then develop the fear immediately upon return home.
I might disable fear of cowplants because it makes it hard for gardeners in the Botanist branch to actually do their jobs, and I play a lot of Botanists; I can see a rando eating cake getting scared and I'm ALL FOR THAT but the Botanist gets the Work From Home task "be eaten by a cowplant" and I would like for them to be immune if they're voluntarily doing that as a WFH task. I guess I can make it a ritual for them to go inside, wash up, brush their teeth, psych themselves up in the mirror, and then milk the cowplant? Yeah, not quite ready to disable that one with a mod.
