@richvhAren't you supposed to talk to the Principal? Not sure, I haven't played in awhile but I know there is something that pops on the first day where you talk to the principal.

@rlc77There are three steps in the first day pre-class quest:
1) Talk to principal about new school
2) Claim a locker
3) Talk to a teacher about the curriculum.
It's the last step that's bugged. Rita Coombes (Class 1 teacher) doesn't have the High School slice on the main pie menu where the Talk About Curriculum choice used to reside.
Sorry, I didn't remember that part.
I have found since then that the option to talk to the teacher about curriculum is still there, but moved to Small Talk which isn't where I expected it to be.
