Re: Laptop for ts4 and school 2021

@puzzlezaddict Thank you for the quick reply!

I was looking at the HP ENVY 17-cg1019no earlier. It’s way more expensive but had a 25% off deal. It has the Nvidia MX450. I really wanted it, but 17” and almost 3 kg is not suitable for my studies ☹️

I would love some more suggestions. I live in Sweden.

  • I have found out that both the Asus ZenBook 14 and the HP Pavilion 15 that I want are sold with the exact specs I want and the Nvidia mx450 GPU, just not in Sweden... I obviously need a laptop with a Swedish keyboard, so I have to ignore that the exact laptop I want exist in world, because they don’t cater that version to Sweden ☹️

@MaertaPet  Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.  I didn't get a chance to do a thorough search yesterday, so I was planning on doing it this afternoon.

It's entirely possible that laptops with the MX450 will show up in Sweden at some point, in fact it would be strange if they didn't.  Supply doesn't get evenly distributed across the world, but I'd expect at least a few models to be available sooner or later, if you're not in a hurry.  The MX450 is the only graphics card of its class and generation, and I'd think a number of manufacturers would want to ship units that include it.

If you do want to buy now, the MX350 is still a good choice, just not as fast as the MX450.  Or, if you know of a shop that can replace a keyboard, you could get the laptop you want from a different country.  Between that and remapping the keyboard within Windows, you'd get the same experience.

I understand why you might not want to do that though, and I'll try to find some other options once I figure out which Swedish stores to check out.

@puzzlezaddict No worries! Just grateful someone wants to spend their time helping me!

I have found one or two with the Nvidia mx350, but then they always have a Ryzen CPU. I can for exemple get the Asus ZenBook 14 UM433IQ-pure5 which has the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U (8 core, 8 thread, 12 MB cache). But isn’t that kind of a downgrade from the other ZenBook with Intel i7-1165G7?

I do want to buy the laptop quite soon, but I don’t want to spend so much money on something that is a bad compromise.

Here are some stores if you want any tips (I have already checked them out though):

    Elgiganten

    NetonNet

    Webhallen

    MediaMarkt

@MaertaPet  The 4700U is not a downgrade at all from a 1165G7, at least not as far as Sims games are concerned.  Certain types of professional work would run faster on the Intel processor, but then other types would run faster on the Ryzen, and they'd both be able to handle the loads regardless.  While Intel processors have been better for gaming recently, that's changing, and regardless, the limiting factor for Sims 4 will be the graphics card or chip, not the CPU.

If you want a slightly nerdy comparison, this is a good overview:

    https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-1165G7-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-4700U/m1195374vsm1105478

Sims 4 can use up to four CPU cores, so the 2 and 4 core speeds are what matter.

However, if this is the laptop you're looking at:

    https://www.webhallen.com/se/product/321776-ASUS-Zenbook-14-UM433IQ-PURE2X-14-FHD-R7-4700U-16GB-512GB-Radeon-RX-Vega-10-Win-10

its performance in gaming isn't as good overall as would be suggested by the hardware.  The reasons can get a bit complicated, but the overall idea is that the Zenbook's design doesn't allow for efficient cooling, so the system throttles performance somewhat to compensate.  Additionally, the MX350 in this model is the low-power variant, so its performance will be slower than ideal as well.  The first issue can be mitigated somewhat by using a cooling pad or fan while you play; the second would require messing around with some basic settings.

If you want the details, here's a very thorough review:

    https://www.ultrabookreview.com/37505-asus-zenbook-um433iq-review/

Search for "fire strike" to jump to the graphics performance section.

To be clear, this laptop should still run Sims 4 a little better than one with only a 4700U or 1165G7, but the gap is smaller than it could be.  So if you really like another laptop without a dedicated graphics card, or you'd prefer to pay significantly less, the smaller drop in performance might be a worthwhile tradeoff.

@MaertaPet  If you're willing to go up to 13,000 kr, this one is a true gaming laptop and should be able to run Sims 4 on ultra settings:

    https://www.mediamarkt.se/sv/product/_asus-rog-zephyrus-g14-ga401ii-he008t-14-gaming-laptop-med-gtx-1650-ti-1327259.html

    https://www.netonnet.se/art/gaming/gamingdator/barbar-gamingdator/asus-rog-zephyrus-ga401ii-he008t/1014156.12916/

It's well-rated both in performance and overall, it has an excellent battery life for a gaming laptop, and it's lightweight and sleek.

This is its somewhat more expensive upgraded version, definitely overkill for Sims 4 but worth mentioning because it's the same price as the one you linked:

If you don't like the Zephyrus, this MSI has a gaming graphics card (an Nvidia 1650) as well, significantly faster than the MX350 and a bit slower than the 1650 ti in the first Zephyrus above.  It's not a gaming laptop though, it's a lightweight productivity laptop with a GPU for handling graphics-intensive tasks that also happens to run games quite well.

This Acer is also worth mentioning: it has the same MX350 as the Zenbook, but its cooling is a bit better.  I'd pick any of the above before this one, but in case you like it better:

@puzzlezaddict Thank you so much for your suggestions!

I found this computer from Dell and I really like it. To me the specs look good, but I would love if someone with actual knowledge could tell me wether this is good or not. Is it dated?

I had some trouble with the link, but I hope it works. It’s the Dell Inspiron 15 7000.
    CPU: 10th generation Intel® Core™ i7-10750H

    GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce GTX® 1650 Ti, 4 GB GDDR6

    1 TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD-hard drive

@MaertaPet  That's definitely a very good option.  Its performance would be a few percentage points slower than that of the Asus Zephyrus due to basic software and settings, but with a 1650 ti, you'd have plenty of breathing room anyway.  Its processor is stronger than the others mentioned as well, although that won't affect Sims 4.

If you like it the best, then there's no reason not to get it.

@puzzlezaddict Omg I just bought it! I’m so exited (even though it’s expected to arrive middle to late April). Thank you so much for all your help throughout my search, I would have been very lost otherwise. I’m so grateful this community has such active and caring members.
