Hi @SandraWozna,
Short version:
As with The Sims 2, you can have more than one family in one save game. Just load one of your save games, and when you get to the map view, instead of loading your current family, use the button in the botton right corner of the screen to create a new family in the same world.
Long detailed explanation:SpoilerOn The Sims 2 for PC each neighborhood was a save game, and you could have different households in each neighborhood, right? But you could only have one copy of each neighborhood. You had one save game which was Pleasantview, another one that was Strangetown,... You could have 2 families living in Pleasantview, which could meet each other, but Sims living in Pleasantview couldn't meet or visit Sims living in Strangetown.
In The Sims 4, each save game is a copy of all neighborhoods - each save game is a copy of the world (contains all neighborhoods). Having 5 save games, you have 5 copies of the world: 5 Willow Creek, 5 Newcrest,... You can have different households in the same world, and now Sims living in Willow Creek can meet Sims living in other neighborhoods, as long as they are part of the same savegame, as long as they live in the same copy of the world.
In The Sims 4, when you start a new save game, you are creating a clean new copy of the world. You can have more than one household in the same save game, but for that you need to create the new households in an existing save game, instead of creating a new save game.
If you load one of your save games, you see the world map, right? Now that you are inside that save game, instead of loading your household (let's call them Family A), use the option you will find in the right bottom corner of the screen to create a new household in that same save game (Family B). This new household will live in the same save game than Family A.
Hope that helps. If long explanation sounds complicated, don't worry, once you create the family following the steps I shared you will understand 🙂
Happy simming!
-Mai - Anonymous8 years agoThanks so much for this it really helps. And you may think I'm really silly with the question but how do I move between saves (which are various versions of towns I understood) and know which town/save I am in?

Hi @SandraWozna,
Not silly questions at all, SandraWozna, it's different from previous games so it's normal not knowing how it works at the beginning!
When you are selecting which game to load, you will see a picture of the last played household in that save game, as well as the date in which you saved. Also, you will see the different save game numbers, which should help you know which save game is which.
When you create a household and place it in the world, that will only happen in that save game, in that copy of the world. And every change you make in the world will only happen in the save game you are playing in. So even if at the beginning all the copies of the worlds are the same default across all save games, your changes will make each different.
When you create a household/family for the first time, a copy of it is saved in your Library. You can also save a house, family, room or lot in your Library at any point. It's similar to the family bin in The Sims 2, remember that? The items saved in your Library can be placed from the Library to the save game you are currently playing at any point.
However, please, keep in mind some things won't be saved when you save a family in the Library. For example, once you place them again, they won't remember their relationships.
Let me know if you would want some guidance on how to use the Library or you have any questions. Button is available in the top right corner of your screen.
