It should work, not all mods need an update after a patch. Because it is a package mod it will normally not harm your game on a deeper level, self it is outdated. Thanks everyone! I did find and look at the mod, still not sure it will do what I need without disabling other things that I don't mind or like. I really want to see this issue fixed, which it isn't. despite claims that a patch did. I hate that it spoiled plans (again) for a special date for my sims to become engaged. Now if only I could find a way to just cancel the engagement without dumping their relationship levels to zero.
It has been said that Neighborhood Stories is to blame for this issue, and that if turned off, it won't happen. Well, I never liked it and have had it turned off for a long time, and this still happened. Just an FYI that it has supposedly helped some.
