Question about the game making two sims engaged when you don't want them to be,

I get the notification from a friend sim, that they found a ring in their romantic sim's bag, and want to know if they should say yes or no. No matter the response, the two end up engaged whether or ...

    Here's a workaround that you could try. Have the sims "get married instantly" by being in control of one of the engaged sims, and click on the other and find that option under Romance. They will instantly be married.

    Then type CTRL + SHIFT + C to open the cheat console, and type "testingcheats on" without the quotation marks, and hit enter.

    Now you can shift + click on your sim and choose "Clear Marriages" and you shouldn't lose the full status of your relationship that way, making it easier to get engaged again and do it the way you want.

@xochiquetzl_xkvn Thanks, I finally found that, but apparently it hasn't been updated in quite a while. I'd try anyway if I wasn't already having issues since HSY came out, as well as recent patches. This bites, but I will keep looking.

What @daikoyu said, I'm using it in my game without issues, and Better Exceptions hasn't said a word about it.

    Thanks everyone! I did find and look at the mod, still not sure it will do what I need without disabling other things that I don't mind or like. I really want to see this issue fixed, which it isn't. despite claims that a patch did. I hate that it spoiled plans (again) for a special date for my sims to become engaged. Now if only I could find a way to just cancel the engagement without dumping their relationship levels to zero. 

    It has been said that Neighborhood Stories is to blame for this issue, and that if turned off, it won't happen. Well, I never liked it and have had it turned off for a long time, and this still happened. Just an FYI that it has supposedly helped some.
