Re: Sim has "Filthy Surroundings" moodlet, house spotless

@cyvintyraneaI've had a similar issue and it turned out to be a corrupted outside bin. I deleted the existing outside bin and replaced it, the moodlet faded finally. The unpleasant moodlet seemed to traverse the walls of the house, so my sims would get the moodlet while inside or out, depending on how close they were to the bin.

  • I deleted the outside bin and it worked!!
They didn't get the moodlet outside but I removed the outdoor bin that came with island living and replaced it with a base game outdoor bin and they no longer have the moodlet
The other save file is an island living based family so they also have that bin. I will go and play with them now and remove the bin

    Thank you so much!!

  • I'm having the same issue, but there is no bin outside. I put one there and that's didn't work. I have tried everything else. Any other suggestions?

  • @TrayliaI would start by taking any of the bins that are inside the house and place them all in the household inventory, see if the moodlet fades, if so, put them back one by one until you find the offending bin.

If that doesn't work, you can look for old plates and glasses that sims may have left around (the empty water glasses can be difficult to see sometimes). Be aware, I have found water glasses under couches and other furniture, which I think glitched there due to my interrupting a sim with other commands while they were trying to drink.

Make sure you empty the fridge of old food i've periodically kept forgetting about that and spend 10 mins trying to find what's setting them off until i check the fridge to see the Empty Fridge interaction show up and i remember lol. Personally i don't think it makes sense for the Sims mood to so instantly drop over a bit of gone off food, 1 dirty counter or a few dirty plates and also get the Grungy Moodlet too, i've also found Diapers hiding they instantly get "Filthy Surroundings" moodlet over just 1 diaper lol.

  • I had this issue recently and finally realized it was some decorative wine glasses I got from the debug items list to decorate my kitchen shelves. They became "old" and were stinking up the place!

  • Omg that worked! I deleted the outside bin and placed a new one and it was solved immediately. Thank you so much! This was driving me crazy!

Yeah, I've had that problem.  In my case, it was a fish in the fish tank that was in poor condition.

There was also something in the kitchen that upset them at one point.  Apparently a dirty plate got stuck sideways between the cabinets.

  • I have the same problem, I'm trying to get the child's aspirations but they require a specific mood, and they are only uncomfortable. I've removed my only trash bin, searched every place something could be on in close-up, and moved every item to see if something was under it except for the walls, both the fridge and sims inventory are food free. No one needs a bath, there are no fish tanks, and I have a maid clean as well as the child. It only happens we they are outside in their house going to the back of the yard, the only things back there is a fence, a half wall, a couple of kids' toys, a pool and kiddie pool, a computer desk, the oven, fridge, and a few counters with only a microwave, sink, and coffee maker all clean and nothing hiding under anything.

I just went obsessively insane over this. It was only in one room, but I had replaced all the bins on the lot already anyway. I then put item by item into my household inventory, seeing if any of them caused it - nope, she's in an empty room complaining about the squalor.

I was so annoyed, I started sledgehammering the walls, thinking I was being unreasonable.... Only to find two spoiled eggs and a tomato after I sledgehammered the wall behind the fridge. I think because I've had move objects on, when I try to put the eggs in the fridge in live mode, sometimes they've been placing in the wall by accident. I now have a happy Sim on a mostly empty lot.

    Time to rebuild the house...

A Portrait of a Sim. Who cares about the missing walls, floating chickens, or creepy gnome that appeared halfway through this debacle?  All she knows is she is no longer living in squalor. If only we could all be so easily pleased.

@ae2e2ad59c70318d Thank you for your post! I also found spoiled eggs in the wall behind my fridge. Shedge hammered the wall and found them and deleted them. Thanks!

I wanted to add my own tale. Sorry if I noted it the wrong way! I was also going insane trying to figure out the issue. I have cupboards that I have personally filled. After moving everything I decided to zoom in on those. There was some ash on one of the shelves from a fire I had once. What! If I hadn't read this thread I would have never thought to search that particular spot.

Thank you, you wonderful person. As soon as I read this, I knew it must be it since the moodlet was present both in kitchen area and the bathroom that shares the wall with the one where fridge is! I tore down the wall there and found two rotten eggs. Finallllly the moodlet is gone!
