SOLVED: found this comment from Crin in the forums from 2020. It fixed my issue. I wanted to tell you guys what I did to fix it in case you have the same frustrating issue.

It's probably an invisible ingredient in your inventory.
To get rid of it, move all stuff you want to keep from your Sims inventory to another Sim or place in world and then use the cheat inventory.purge on the Sim. That should get rid of the invisible item.
Backup your save before doing this in case you purge the wrong inventory.
