Re: Tome for high ranked spell casters

The tomes, which can be gotten from Build/Buy using the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat, are indeed useful for learning most available spells.

But the three capstone spells of the three schools of magic do not have corresponding spell tomes, and also cannot be learned by studying the Tome for High Ranked Spellcasters.

Those three spells are taught solely by the sages of their respective schools.

As a shortcut for learning those in a hurry, when my casters have had busy lives of their own and not had opportunity or inclination to cultivate a close relationship with each sage, I use a Potion of Forced Friendship, and leverage its effects to befriend the sages instantly, to then acquire the capstone spells.

    @Sindocat Having a high charisma level also makes it easier since you can do a cheerful introduction and it essentially fills the friendship bar at least half full

    Hmm.. I had the different experiences with Sages. One of my spellcaster sim was able to learn any spells from Sage without charisma skill or potion. Having some chat with them for a while such as get to know, ask their carrers, ask about day, ask about interests etc, my sim was able to learn any spell from the Sages. But 2 of my spellcasters are global superstar, Pristine reputation with level 10 in charisma skill. They randomly get rejected to learn the spells from Sages although the green relationship was full and having chat over an hour, but they got no luck. Since that time, I mostly don’t go to the Sages for learning the spells. It was totally random in my game.

    @aodoherty Weird: I've never been rejected from a Sage with a sim with high charisma level. Also, if you're not adverse to mods, I know that the UI mod allows you to unlock any spell/potion by right clicking it within the spellbook so if you want an easy way to teach your sims spells/potions, I reccomend it

    @aodoherty

    In my case, I've noticed that if you learn all the spells for their specialization, the Sages have started (sometimes? always?) giving the wrong answer and saying they don't know you instead of saying you've learned them all.

    In the save where I have the most casters, I make all the kids do Friend of the World as teenagers and give them Incredibly Friendly, so maintaining a friendship with the Sages is really easy.  The one exception was my loner Sim, who learned all the spells out of books and for the three that are only taught by the Sages, she took a Potion of Forced Friendship and used it to get the spells out of the Sages.

    But yeah, if I get that "I don't know you" message, I look and see how many spells in that school they know, and/or have them practice that school of magic (which gives the correct error message).

    (Also, I think they've started giving out those capstone spells a rank early, but I'm not complaining, I'll take it!)

    Anyway: there's no tome for the top 3 spells; you have to go to the Sages. I've always found the Sages to be the fastest way to learn spells, but yeah, the error message is wrong and if I get it I go brew more Potion of Plentiful Needs or practice a different school of magic to boost XP and come back after level up. It's tempting to not do it with a full house, though, which it sounds like you have! so the tomes are a better option, but you'll have to ask for the last three. One of my Sims went to the Magic Realm every day from 8-3 while her little siblings were in school for that reason.

    I've started moving out some of my newly YA casters onto an empty lot and having them go to the Magic Realm and never leave until they're Virtuosos. LilSimsie's Magic Realm Reno has beds, but you can also nap on couches or guzzle Potion of Plentiful Needs.

    @xochiquetzl_xkvnThis is only one complain for me about the magic pack. Even though my virtuoso spellcasters purchased all the perks and still over 200 talent points are remained, they can't teach ANY spells.. for their family members.
    Anyway, back to the point about learning the spells from Sages, I knew that they didn't have spells to teach for my sim any further at my sim's rank. However, sometimes, they just refuse without any reason randomly but not often though. 🙂 My spellcasters are golbal superstars, so they become friends as soon as they introduce themselves to the Sages.

    @aodoherty It is rather frustrating that sims can't teach others spells: if sims can offer the right of ascension, why can't they teach spells they've learnt? I think allowing sims to tech others spells, even if they made it so you had to be a certain level of spellcaster to do so, it would greatly improve the pack!

    @Idiosyncratic53YES!! At Least, if they purchase 'Natural Mentor' after reaching Virtuoso level, I wish they can teach spells!! They are now only doing the great copy of objects and the great spell butlers at home...-_- One more, they know how to change their friend human sim into the spellcaster but don't know how to back to human..  So their friend spellcasters has to ask for that to the Sages AGAIN..to be escaped from Realm of Magic.
