Roommates in Sims 4 Discover University

Hi,

I've been trying to add a group of friends to be roommates. I've converted Drake Hall into a residential area, just so I can invite other sims to be my roommate.

The problem is that even when their relationship levels are set to high, they keep rejecting my roommate request, saying they "already have a home" or that someone is depending on them.

How do I make them my roommates?

Thanks!

  • @sygrex If any or all of the friends are not NPC (in other words, if they can be found in "My Households" or in "Other Households" in "Manage Households"), you could try moving them all into separate households. (I would recommend also clicking the heart on these household to move them to "My Households" to protect them from culling.) Then you can make sure they're all 'homeless' (not living in any house). If you look at them in "Manage Households" it should say "Currently not in world" under them.

After doing all of this please try again to invite them to be your roommate.

Edit: Another option if you have made it a residence would be to move all of these friends into a household with your sim (also, move them to 'My Households). By having them all in the same household as your sim you should be able to then also control them all. With this option, though, they will not technically be 'asked to be roommates'.

Edit again@RandomBuzziness  LOL! No problem. 🤗

  • @sygrex Only Sims that are currently homeless (i.e. "Currently not in world") and are not already in a household with another Sim will accept an offer to be a roommate. When it says that someone is depending on them it means they are already in a household with other Sims.

So the short answer is you cannot make them your roommates unless you use something like Manage Households to make them homeless and not part of a household with other Sims. Here's one way you can do this. Go into Manage Worlds and then the Manage Households screen and find the household with the Sim you want to be your roommate. I will use the Free Spirits household as an example:

Click on the Transfer Sims between households button (looks like two arrows). This will take you to the Household Split and Merge screen.

Highlight the Sim you want to have as your roommate. I am going to use Ulrike Faust in my example. Click on the Create a New Household button and then use the arrow key to move the highlighted Sim into the new household. It should show the New Household as "Currently Not in World".

You can transfer funds if you'd like but that is not required. Click on the check-mark when you are done.

In my example I have now made Ulrike Faust a homeless Sim, or "Currently Not in World", and not part of a household with other Sims. I can now add her as a roommate.

It might take a little work to do this for all the Sims you'd like to add but it works. If you ever want to stop having them as roommates and wish to restore them to their original households you can use Manage Households to reverse the process.

Good luck I hope this helps :D
