Could you enlighten me on where it is you are forced to enter a new name when saving. I have not been able to find anywhere where that happens. The saves are listed after date so if you you look for that it is quick to find and scrolling through only 15 saves is fast. Try 50. 🙂I do agree with @JonaO703 that the play and delete buttons are too close together.

Save game as
The new name is completely blank.
You may like scrolling, but after I have played one game and to save, I could quickly scroll to the tile that was the oldest played and delete it. Then, where the new name used to be, the name of the save was existent. All I had to do was type 1 or 2 keystrokes to change the name of the save and save it.
My saved games consist of seven (7) characters plus a plus 1 numbering system. Sure. I can copy and paste the name of the old file, but I usually save my one an only copy for book titles because it is a pain to have to type a new name for each book that comes out.
The tiles showed almost all the saved games in one view. Now, I have to scroll down a complete list. Waste of time!
This change was completely unnecessary. It irks me to know end that these "engineers" changed something that was not broke. That was easy to use. That was easy to organize.
There are a number of other problems (mostly minor, a few major) that need addressing. Changing the save process was not one of them.

By default the new name in Save As is prefilled with "My Savegame XX" where XX is the next available number. If you do not see this I suspect you have a broken Mod that you need to update.

Thanks for expanding your comment because I wasn't sure I was grasping what you were trying to get across. While it won't impact me greatly since I rarely use save as, I can empathize with those of you who do, it that's the case. Haven't tried "save game as" since the new menu implementation.
I do, however, agree with the additional comments in this thread about the play and delete buttons being too close together. When I first opened the game after patching and saw the change made, my first thought was "Uh Oh". I immediately felt the possibility for accidentally deleting a save was probably higher than whoever made the design change might have anticipated. It simply wouldn't take a player getting suddenly distracted by something going on in the real world to have that mouse cursor slip slightly and presto, no game save. I'm sure there's probably some kind of "are you sure" type warning but if dealing with a distraction, I think it would be far too easy to just hit yes. Only time will tell, that's just my 2 cents worth of input 🙂
BTW, please don't be offended but I would suggest editing your subject line, for your sake. Just looking at the subject as is, it could be a rant rather than putting forth the "save game as" concern you have. I almost didn't even look at the thread but then wondered if someone might be encountering difficulties with saving games and needed assistance. Offered as food for thought for you partly, too, because I think it's a good idea to have a thread for input on the new load game menu. A different subject line may encourage more participation by other simmers and that would be a good thing.

Thanks for the advice. You are right; I was wrong. But even "My Savegame XX" is a change that I don't appreciate. Before, the name of the new game reflected the name of the last game played. So, these "engineers" didn't help us! They made more work and aggravation! How do you change the title of the discussion?

- 5 years ago@wallisdj I suspect it's against EA company policy to have something that works reasonably well, so change was inevitable.
