Save Game Dialog (Patch 1.73) Discussion

The recent change to saving games really is the worst idea ever conceived. Barely manageable. Forced to enter a new name. Searching for old saves (I have some 15 saves) is a chore. The old tile system worked very well.

Who do we get to shout curses to for mucking up another part of the game?

Thanks for the advice. You are right; I was wrong. But even "My Savegame XX" is a change that I don't appreciate. Before, the name of the new game reflected the name of the last game played. So, these "engineers" didn't help us! They made more work and aggravation! How do you change the title of the discussion?

@wallisdj You should be able to click on those 3 dots next to the date of your OP and see an option to edit that post and resubmit it.

I'm glad the situation wasn't quite as bad as you thought.
  • I was recently thinking about just how easy and straight-forward the "Open Saved Game" dialogue box was. How I wished it would get changed so I'd have to scroll back and forth to see all of my saves to find the appropriate one to open. And, I was thinking, wouldn't it be great to put a [Delete] button right next to the [Open] button, to add the thrill of making it so easy to accidentally delete a game I was trying to open.

Then, lo and behold, another update came along and my annoyance at having to wait an hour before I could play the game because I was forced to do the update there and then, rather than postpone it to a more convenient time, was in part assuaged by finding that was exactly what some clever person had implemented.

    Well done, and thanks.

  • @wallisdj I suspect it's against EA company policy to have something that works reasonably well, so change was inevitable.
  • I agree. I was very disappointed to find that instead of the old save as that I used all time, that was so convenient to just backspace and change a number, is changed so now I have to type the name in all over again. Having just a save game number xx is not informative at all. It could pertain to anything. I hope they change it back in another patch note but I'm not going to hold my breath.

  • I'm still hoping the Save Game window goes back to the tile view.  I got tired of scrolling through the list and ended up just moving some of my saves to a different folder.  This is incredibly annoying because now I have to exit the game to load those saves when I want them.  I guess I like the instant play button in the new list view but that's pretty much it.  I still don't like that the Open and Delete buttons are so close together, although I haven't accidentally deleted any games ... yet.  If we're stuck with this list view, it would be nice if the lines could be smaller so more can be seen at once.  Or maybe players could have the option to display a list or tiled view.

    Thank you for this thread.

Save UI should ideally make it easier for the player to save and make backups, Save As; especially for The Sims games, since there can be a lot of issues only solved by reverting to a previous save. This new UI makes it less flexible.

There is also a thread on Sims Forum about the close proximity and design of the buttons Save and Delete, and how that is bound to make players accidentally make the wrong choice. For a game that, from what I've read, players create long term saves for, stretching over real time years, that is particularly ill-though out design. I wonder if the UI developers have access to any research made on how the players play the game. They should have by any standards, but also considring the way the game and Origin collects information during gameplay.
