Save Games
Hi, I’m just wondering with all the work done on save games, is there any chance Xbox X|S can have more than 10 saves now? I have to delete one to start a new save and I have attachment issues

TomOCally3 I get what you're asking but this would not be good practice on console. Running more than 10 saves with a game the size of Sims 4 causes major save bloat, crashes and lagging as well as full storage error codes. Limits are decided by Xbox (with input from EA I'm sure) but most of the responsibility for save slots falls on Xbox. There are sound reasons for that limit based on the Microsoft system level storage cap which is imposed across the system architecture to avoid taking up unlimited cloud storage or corrupting memory. The game has so many assets to consider. Every relationship, every interactive item, every bit of inventory storage and even the library storage all add to the file size. Multiply that by 10 you can understand why that's too much even with a next gen console. Series S has limited storage anyway but even on Series X it's just not a realistic expectation.
Are you starting a new save per household? I have mine all in one save with one backup save that's a copy of that game. I'm on Xbox Series X with all content and 37 maker packs and by using just a couple of save slots I'm avoiding the game breaking crashing and lagging that many console players are experiencing.
No I totally get what you’re saying, but maybe if there was a recommended limit like there is with the amount of sims allowed in each save?
I normally have like 6/7 families per save but I have one where most of the lots have been made off the grid/olden times, one for a legacy save, one without cheats to get achievements, one with celebrities etc in, once you start playing the game the ea sims get old, die or have the ugliest children, which makes me want to start a new save, but I don’t want to delete old saves because I’m sentimental about the history I’ve created with those families, if you get me?
TomOCally3 You could always save those special families and their homes to your Library to keep them if you don't already do that, rather than in a save game. But make sure to choose the Library not the Gallery, I've seen players accidentally put Sims in the Gallery without realising they've shared their beloved, personal creations with the Simming world when they didn't want to! You might find that family relationships are lost but you can add those again with cas.fulleditmode if you're going to place them in a game. I'd recommend clearing all the premade items from the Library first to make space for them, that's a tip from Xbox Support to cut down on storage. I always totally clear mine to free up space.
I also have Sims I'm very attached to and enjoy remaking them in new saves with new packs to give them a glow up and improve on their stories with any new content I've added. I especially like to do that with celebrity Sims, in fact I'm doing that at the moment. I usually have over 100 of my own Sims in my save. It's better for the smooth running of your game to have more Sims in one save instead of several saves with a few Sims in. Each save game is full of all those assets, lots, relationships, progress and other households that take up so much space. I play with ageing and neighbourhood stories turned off so the game stays as I want it to be. I also clear random Townies from Other Households every day because I don't need them but also because carrying too many of them adds to that storage and slows the game down.
So it's a bit of a balancing act on console and there are a few compromises to make, even on a powerful console like Series X. In Sims 3 we had the Fire Meter to tell us when we'd used too many items, it was annoying but then so is an error code telling us storage is full. Once you've had one of those it is really difficult to get rid of it.
