Scenarios Saving Over Recent Save File

I recently played a scenario for basically the first time since they came out, clicking on new, assuming it would be in a new save file. This saved over the household that I’ve been playing on for ages. I know that this is my own fault, but why is there a button to save over an existing game and why is it the first button on the screen? Thank you for your time.
