My sim has been to Selvadorado 6 times and has been to every location in the jungle. Each visit, gates that she has been through are blocked with a stone door OR the vines have re-grown. No matter what she does, she cannot access locations that she has unlocked during the current visit on the map.
You will probably never have all spaces available at the same time. To make expeditions unique, which side spaces are available each trip changes at random, as does the final temple. Once you leave Selvadorada and go home, that expedition is over and if you come back again it will be a “new” expedition that you’ll have to start fresh on that may or may not have the same side gates available. The unlocked gates only stay unlocked for the duration of the trip. If you want to leave the jungle to refill needs and the come back to continue where you left off, you have to stay in Selvadorada and refill those needs at the rental, not end the trip and travel home.
