Have you had a fire? Sometimes the discoloration from a fire on the floor will be hidden by a counter so you can't see it, or a sim can't clean it. Moving the counters out of the way will let a sim clean the floor then. And if you haven't already looked with walls up, there might be a dirty dish on a shelf where sims can't get to it.
