ILoveSims3355 I have no idea really why your household went missing. There are several things that could have happened along the way that could cause it. The only thing I can suggest to get them back is what luthienrising referred to: Look for an older save if you have any backups set aside somewhere. If you can find one, then either play that or save the household to your Library and reinstall them in your current save.

Open the old game, take the family into CAS, then save them to your library. Then go back to the current save and place them from your library into their empty house. You’ll still need to re-introduce your sims to them as relationships outside the household won’t be preserved.
ILoveSims3355 You can do a recovery to see if there is a version of the save that still has the household in it. Just use the Load menu and choose the top save and hit the recover button next to the play and delete buttons. Keep in mind, unless the household went missing recently, they may not be there. There are only 5 versions of each save so it might not go far enough back in time for you depending on when the sims went missing.
On retrieving the sims from an old save. What PipMenace said. I do suggest you make a copy of your saves folder and set it aside somewhere else on your computer before doing anything though. Just in case.
