Simplified Chinese doesn't support mods

Happy to see that we have simplified Chinese version now. However, it doesn't work well with mods. To be more specific, the simplified Chinese Sims cannot read traditional Chinese or English. Therefore, all texts (including titles, descriptions, and options in the menu) in the mods (including script mods and content mods) are not displayed. All I can read is blank or **debug**.

I suppose I need to keep using the English or Traditional Chinese version before The simplified Chinese version supports multiple languages.

  • @agathayin  If you're referring only to the mod interactions, then this is an issue for mod creators: they need to add translation strings for simplified Chinese.  If you feel comfortable enough with the languages, you could even offer to translate the text for your favorite modders—I'm sure at least some of them would be happy to have the help.

If there are any issues with vanilla game functions, you can try the troubleshooting steps listed in the first two posts of this thread:

I think you are right but I still feel confused somehow. I mean, for script mods, they do need translations but how about content mods?

For example, let's say I have some mods for sofas and they are called ‘sofa a’ and 'sofa b'. I don't think the mod creator needs to have any translation for them.

When I use the traditional Chinese version, I can still see the name 'sofa a' and 'sofa b' in architecture mode but when I use the new version, their names become '**debug**'. That is why I think the simplified Chinese version cannot read the text in English or other languages.

But still, thank you very much for the reply. I will follow the instructions in your link to see if it helps.

@agathayin  It would be a good test to load the game with no mods at all and see whether any text is missing.  You don't have to mess with your existing game folder: just move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content, so you can have a look around without any mod influence.  And you can put your old folder back when you're done.

I don't know enough about modding to tell you which mods would require translation strings, and for which functions.  It's possible that for some creations, they simply need to add pointers to the new simplified Chinese text resources; others may require added translations on top of what the game offers.  At any rate, the modders themselves will know.
