I've pretty much given up, but decided to try with a brand new save. I created my Sim, moved her into an apartment, and started her on the Entertainer career to become a Comedian. She earned no money on her first day of work. So I had her quit that job and get a job as a fast food employee and she earned money at that job! So then I moved her back to the Entertainer career and again she made no money. Nothing changed except the job, so it's got to be a glitch with that career choice. I am submitting a bug report on the Sims 4 Bugs forum.
@imjuliewaters, yes, since she can earn money at other jobs but not this particular one, then it does sound like a bug! 😞 Thank you for updating us! 😇
