@EX19ABaby showers parties are already in the game (if you have GRO), I think it's more than enough.
To be sure your next baby will be the gender you want to be:
if you want a boy, make the pregnant sim listen to Alternative music and eat lots of carrots
if you want a girl, make the pregnant sim listen to Pop music and eat lots of strawberries.
As far as I know, gender reveal parties are a very distinctly American thing, which, fools that we are, has more than once caused deaths and/or forest fires with our obsession with making things go bang. I kind of thought the confetti cannons with their chance to start a fire was a nod to that unfortunate trend.
But, as @GiardiniDiMarzo pointed out, you can choose a gender through what your Sim eats & listens to. Then use the baby shower event and call it a gender reveal party.
Also, if you use mods, Littlbowbub has a gender reveal cake. Or if you want a more complex mod, there’s pregnancy overhauls that include ultrasounds and finding out the gender.
