Sims 4. Imperial stairs not working

I don't think this is a bug, but I think you should be able to do this. I've built an imperial staircase, but my sims won't go up, they complain that they can't walk upstairs. The kids can so I think it's because I'm using a platform and the game thinks the ceiling is not tall enough for adult sims, but there is no ceiling, it's open to downstairs.

@Moonlight_829   Apologies for the delay!  I did some testing and now I don't think it's the platform height but the 2nd floor railing / fence that is the issue.  From your image, is that a complete fence enclosure on the 2nd floor?

If so, try removing the stairs and then use the sledgehammer to delete the bits of fence located where the top of the stairs would be.  Like this...

(Btw, deleting those sections of fencing may also delete the ceiling above the staircases.  You can draw a room above that to add a ceiling/floor and then delete the walls and ceiling of that room; this would be to just enclose the upstairs area again.)

    Then add the stairs back...

Once I did this, my sim was able to walk up to the second floor...

Please come back and update if this worked for you or not.

  • @Moonlight_829     Hi!  It looks like you've used a platform in the middle, is that right?  The problem is likely the headroom for adult sims at the top of the stairs on either side.  What happens if you lower the platform by one or two clicks?

Yes, I used a platform. That was my hypothesis too, that the game thinks the ceiling is too low for adults to walk, I lowered the platform and now they can use the stairs. But I don't understand why my initial stair doesn't work, there's no ceiling, I opened the second floor to downstairs and removed the ceiling from the downstairs rooms.

Thank you so much! I did what you said and it works now. It didn't cross my mind that that could be the issue.

@Moonlight_829   You're welcome!  I'm glad that worked.  I had no idea this was an issue until I just tried deleting all the railings.  Happy Simming!
