SIMS 4 ISLAND LIVING DIVING ISSUES

I have recently brought sims 4 island living. 

I have seen you can meet mermaids etc which I am yet to see. I have found the mermaids cave but cannot find mermaid grotto. I have seen on other forums you cannot dive there until you reach a certain level with diving? How do you level up or even know what level you are currently on? My sims dive & snorkel loads but in their skills tabs cannot see anything related to diving at all. The only thing that levelled up was their fitness and that’s not completed? I am very very confused haha if someone wouldn’t mind helping me??

    @ellieward96 Diving is an activity and not its own skill. You will also need equipment to dive (which can be purchased at the orange buoy in open water), but I assume you know that. You can also order your sim to dive at the orange buoys. You can also raise your diving skill by doing it as a part time job. Diving is related to your sim's fitness skill and is considered a 'fun' activity. It will raise your fitness level, plus you can find items while diving. The depth of the water at the buoy that you dive at also effects your options.
