Sims 4 on a different computer

I played Sims 4 on my Boyfriend's computer because I did not have a computer. We bought expansion packs and all that. I got a new laptop which is able to play Sims 4 and would like to play the games that we have bought on my laptop instead of my boyfriend's computer. Will I be able to transfer those games to my laptop?

  • @caramans21  Your packs are owned by the account that bought them, not the computer.  So you'll be able to sign into that same account on your laptop and install all your expansions.

If you want to transfer saves or other user-generated content, you'll need to do so manually.  All the user data is stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and you can copy the contents of saves, Tray, and Mods to your new laptop.  The other files are mostly extraneous and will regenerate as necessary, but you might want to move Screenshots over as well.

  • Hi! I was just wondering if it’s possible to use the sims 4 on multiple devices since origin has been discontinued, and it’s available on the EA app? I downloaded the sims 4 base game for free on a desktop since I’m looking for a new laptop, and I was unsure if I would be able to pickup where I left off in game on a new laptop when I get it. Thanks for the help in advance!

@JustJenn32  Your Sims 4 content is owned by your EA account, not your computer, so any packs you buy will be available on any computer where you're signed into the same account.

If you're asking about saves, you'll need to transfer those manually.  User data, including saves, is stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, and you can transfer this entire folder, or just the relevant subfolders (saves for the saves, Tray for the saved households and builds) from one computer to another whenever you want.

Thank you! It's good to know that the game is linked to my account instead of the computer.

Hi. My PS5 Sims 4 stopped working so I’m trying to transfer it to my HP laptop. How do I transfer save data from console to laptop?

@TheGrimRhiper  You can't, sorry.  Saves can be transferred between Windows and macOS but not between computer and console.  The best you could do is save your sims and lots to the Gallery, then download them onto your laptop.

Please also keep in mind that any packs you own for Playstation won't be available on PC.  You'd need to buy them again.
