Sims Getting Buffs for Traits They've Never Had

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.106.148.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Horse Ranch, Growing Together, HSY, Cottage Living, Snowy Escape, Eco Lifestyle, Discover University, Island Living, Seasons, Cats & Dogs, Get To Work, Werewolves, Jungle Adventure, Parenthood, Vampires, Tiny Living, My First Pet, Laundry Day, Carnaval Streetwear Kit, Blooming Rooms Kit
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play a Sim for a while (either from the gallery or from CAS) WITHOUT MODIFYING TRAITS. Receive buff from a trait they've never had anyway.
What happens when the bug occurs? Sim from the gallery who has never had the Active trait keeps getting the 'Not Enough Exercise' buff, and sim made in CAS (via 'play with genetics' for the gallery sim and one I made for the save) keeps getting the 'Unchallenged' buff despite never having had the genius trait.
What do you expect to see? Them to not get entirely unrelated traits
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I downloaded the update for Pandasama's "Realistic Childbirth" mod, and the swatch update package from the Sims. Issue persists after removing all mods from the folder, switching lots, and running the same sims in a different save.

(from before I removed the mods from the folder, but issue still occurs after removing them)

I've used MCCC to kill and revive the sim in an attempt to reset her, and she still got the moodlet a few minutes later. I've tried switching lots, running them in a different save, restarting my game. Definitely not a gamebreaking issue, but a frustrating one. I used MCCC to look at all of her buffs and traits, and she definitely didn't have the genius trait. Both sims with the issue only ever get the negative buffs from their incorrect traits, never the positive ones.

  • @starstruckroman Could you upload both Sims to the gallery and post their names here ?

For the not enough excersice, did you use the soccer ball ?
  • @crinrict I've uploaded the household - it's under "BUG TESTING DONT DOWNLOAD" and my gallery username is starstruckroman. It has all three sims, but the only ones with issues are Trevor (one I downloaded from the gallery - only thing changed is his surname) and Gracie.

    No soccer ball usage.

(I'll be unable to respond further until morning)

Will need to play a while so not sure when I find the time. I couldn't find anything suspicious on the Sims.

For the not enough exercise, do you get it regularly or could it be a certain interaction causing the issue ?
  • @crinrict That's all good!

It's pretty regular and doesn't seem to be triggered by any specific activity. He's gotten it in his sleep, while standing, while reading, etc. It's about as frequent as the buff would be on a sim who actually had the Active trait.

@starstruckroman OK. So I forgot to check the commodities and it seems Trevor has a Trait_Active commodity stuck on him. So, since you downloaded him from the gallery I'm guessing he had the trait at some point and then was changed but then uploaded with the commodity is still there.

I don't know if MCCC has an option to get rid of those. I've started using this mod called Sims Info Box by Lumpinou: https://lumpinoumods.com/2023/07/24/sim-info-toolbox-view-modify-sim-details-info-sims-4-mod/ .. this lets you modify the Sim and remove the commodity. I have not been using it long so make sure to create a backup before using. I don't know if there's any side effects by simply removing the commodity.

For Gracie I would go with this commodity

Very hard to tell what added that. I don't know much about that but I guess if you have time, you could test if the genetics add that buff to the Sim if one of the parents is a genius. I would say that part would be a bug but maybe there's some mechanism that adds that (there's so many these days.

If you can replicate the commodity being added this way on a vanilla game, it's probably best to report this as a fresh bug report.

  • @crinrict Awesome thank you so much! I don't have access to that save for a week now but I'll give it a shot when I'm able to.
