Sims not playable in same household

I had my parent sims go on a vacation in Sulani and when they came back to their home lot in Nordhaven, I was unable to play the children. Their icons at the bottom look like they're not on the lot, but they are. I moved all my CC out and reopened the game, but that did not fix it. I had the mom travel to a different lot, went into manage worlds and opened the home lot as one of the kids, but then it reversed the problem and now I can't play as the parents.
