Sims won't let infants stay in bed or in the high chair

I spend so much of my time trying to put infants to bed or get them to eat in the high chair. But every time an adult sim puts them to bed under my instruction, they immediately pull them out. Even if I see the interaction in time and cancel it, it does not matter. The same with getting them out of bed. 

Also when I try to feed them, it takes a lot to get them in the high chair, then to keep them there without a sim picking them back up again and depositing them on the floor.

I can't stand the infant stage, because it's just such a hassle. My sims never get to do anything themselves and so I have to cheat their needs.
