Since when was Sims 4 free?

Is this even real?

I paid like 30 quid for The Sims 4 base game and I am really confused or I am going to be really pissed off. WHAT IS GOING ON? Can I get a refund please? I mean I get it's all marketing and all that but come on. I just feel a bit cheated. I'm not sure if that's the right word. Will someone please explain?

@popcorn2230 The Sims 4 base game has been free for just over 1 year now, since 18th October 2022: https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/news/play-the-sims-4-for-free-beginning-october-18.

The base game being free was announced in the same breath as the discussion on 'Project Rene' (what a number of people are considering to be The Sims 5): https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/news/everything-announced-during-the-behind-the-sims-summit

@popcorn2230 The Desert Luxe kit was offered free to current sims players during a window of about a month (if I recall correctly), as compensation for purchasing the base game. The cost equaled out if you purchased base game on sale at its lowest price (about $5 USD). Sorry you seem to have missed out on that! Happy simming, though!
