@EuphorialQueen She was already in the career with the household she lived in previously. She was rank 4 or 5 when I moved her in.

That does make a difference. In that case there is a cheat that works to unlock special career items/rewards.
Just search for "sims 4 cheat unlock career items" to find the cheat.
