Suggestion: Simology/Notebook Overhaul

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
How accessible is the current experience? It's overall fine.
Summarize what in the product is difficult to use. Documenting additional information specific to a Sim's Personality, and/or the additional knowledge they acquire.
How is this making it more difficult? With a large amount of Active Sims, and each Sim's experiences being different, it makes keeping track of the things they know, are capable of, and what their individual interests are much more difficult to remember. Furthermore, with various packs not really being "connected" through a common means, it makes having to look for each and every individual pack's details that much harder to find.
How can we reproduce this experience? If you have the Movie Hangout Stuff Pack, attempt to watch a movie of any kind; make sure your Sim enjoys the movie (They get a +1 Happy Moodlet called "Interesting Flick") and have your Sim talk to another Sim with the "Declare Movie Preference" Interaction, to declare your Sim's movie preference. You will notice that while you get a notification that your Sim now prefers that movie type, there is no place anywhere (Either via Simology or Notebook) that tells you they prefer that. You can do the same with Weather Preferences in Seasons, with the only thing telling you that is the actual Interaction Menu greying out the Preference you selected.

Suggestion: Simology/Notebook Overhaul

Type of Suggestion: Gameplay / Documentation

Time of Request: 1/27/2019

Reason for Request: Gameplay Personalization / Tracking / Improvement of Simology and Notebook System

Description: Have the ability to check information that you have declared via Expansions/Game Packs that signify your Sim's interests. Whether it's in the Notebook or under the Simology panel. You could also add it as something you can learn about other sims through conversation, though I would think that would add even more repetitive information that each Sim would have to remember rather than just being something you can just look up on the Simology panel. (As an additional, perhaps add Learned Meals under the collection list? In City Living it can be very confusing to have to hunt down the 1-2 meals you haven't actually learned yet from a food stall. You can already look at recipes that you know by clicking on the refrigerator or stove if you happen to have them already, but having the list of meals as a collection would also encourage Sims to complete that as well.)

Feel free to discuss this idea; I think both the Simology and Notebook sections could be more effectively used to more personalize your Sim as well as their interactions; what do you think?

  • This suggestion is great! It would be fantastic to track stuff like weather preferences, movie preferences, genre of book they like. It could easily be done along with the new (Cottage living) like/dislike system.

Using the like/dislike system, we could also track Fenwick Favours information we learn. (I know the grocer gets a lot of cheese, but there's nowhere in-game to record it.)

Using the notebook again: we could track which encounters in Selvadora and Mt. Komorebi are defeated by which skill.

Right now, I try to track this stuff in a text file. But that doesn't tell me which of my Sim families knows what; and it's a pain to keep it up to date. (I should probably use a spreadsheet.)

The most flexible way to do this would be to have a player-written section in the notebook. One where we could title each page, then type in whatever text we want in that page.

Please let us record this information in-game.
