There Shouldn't Be a Relationship Hit For Cancelling the Welcome Wagon

I'm not a huge fan of the welcome wagon, so I'd just rather not participate. At least the game gives you an option to cancel it when it pops up, right? Well, apparently there's gotta be a catch. If you do cancel the welcome wagon, a popup with a passive-aggressive message along the lines of "I guess we're not wanted here" appears, and the relationship with the neighbors drops into the red. This just seems really excessive to me. It feels like the game is punishing the player for opting out of a feature that they aren't fond of, and I think that's seriously unfair. This is actually what finally drove me to install a mod that disables the welcome wagon altogether, and unless it's changed in the future, I'll probably be keeping this mod. Either the relationship hit from cancelling the welcome wagon should be removed, there should be an option to disable the welcome wagon in the options menu, or both.

If you moved to a new neighborhood IRL and the neighbors turned up to welcome you. Don't you think they would be a little miffed if you just told them to * off?

  • I understand where you're coming from. In real life, if I was moving in, I'd probably enjoy a little surprise party like that. I suppose I should've elaborated on how it was odd that the same thing doesn't happen when cancelling other events involving guests, such as parties, weddings, or keyholder events. So why the welcome wagon specifically? Like I said, if not removing the relationship hit, maybe include an option in the options menu to disable it altogether? In terms of gameplay, I prefer to do things at my own pace, so I don't care much for forced events. For that same reason, I don't usually have my Sims hand out keys.

@The_Ratticator If I remember correctly in my last New Game I had my Sim travel to a different location-- a library to jump-start some of her skills-- before the neighbors showed up. When she returned home a few hours later there was no welcome party. I'll have to test this again to make sure it was not a glitch. I know this is not exactly what you are looking for but it might work, i.e. no welcome party and no negative relationship hit with the neighbors.
