Title Screen Freeze Due to Pop-Ups?

I don't know if there's already a discussion started about this, so I'm sorry in advance. 

Whenever you first start the game and you're on the title screen/main menu page, there's usually a pop up whether that be an ad for a new expansion pack or whatever. If you just simply hit the close button, the screen will be a little faded and you can't do anything after that point and you're just staring at the family you want to so desperately play with. You just have to close out the game and pray you don't get another pop up next time you load in.

The ONLY thing that will work 90% of the time is actually click whatever ad is appearing and then you'll be able to exit after. I hope that made sense and I may just be the only one having that problem.
