@Lailantie I think this is part of the sentiments Sims can have. In real life when a sibling is sad or stressed out or when one of the parents feels sick it can influence the children as well. Most of the Sims households where a death occurred, will be grief stricken. Almost like in the real world. So it seems quiet natural to me that the toddlers will be affected.
To make sure that it is the sentiments Sims can have, you could check the relationship panel and check if the sentiments are really involved in this case. I have my settings on longest so the impact of such an event will not ruin the childhood. These heavy sentiments that can last for weeks can also occur when you, for instance, go to the festival of youth and forget to bless your Sim kids.

@TrismagistosThank you for your reply!
I am (still) confused about what is a sentiment or a mood or a moodlet. Are sentiments what shows up when you open the other sim's profile and you see how the two sims feel about each other? And moods are the little colored squares on bottom left corner of the screen?
I understand that the toddlers would be affected of the family atmosphere. But then they all had their drink immediately after it happened and they were totally normal. In addition, the mother and the other kids were supposed to be sad for 11 hours, so why the toddlers for 2 days? This is what I don't get.

@Lailantie You are right about the sentiments and moods. When you have the Snowy Escape Expansion Pack you will also have the possibility of playing with lifestyles.
Sentiments can affect the relationships between Sims and when these are positive there will be a greater bond. When negative it will affect them opposite. Moods are means with which a Sim can do their tasks better of with more succes. For instance: the concentration mood will let them learn several skills quicker. Like logic, handiness, gaming and programming. The inspiration mood will have a positive effect on cooking, learning to play a musical instrument, painting or writing, energetic moods will have an effect on motor skills etc.
Usually when a Sim dies the periode of grief is 2 days. When there is an urn then the Sims can mourn and that will usually take up to two hours en will affect their mood. They will become sad. Only when there are stronger mood influencing items in the direct vicinity of your Sim this Sad mood will be pushed to the end of the mood bar. The reason it took the mother and kids only 11 hours is probably due to the potion you gave them. I think toddlers are less affected by potions and experience different (less elaborate) emotions/moods (no shame, no concentration etc.)
I hope you will be able to work it out with this information.
Have fun playing. 😉

@Trismagistos The 11 hours were BEFORE the potion. The other kid and a teenager who witnessed the death only got 11 hours, just the girl who was his daughter got 2 days. The sentiments of the toddlers weren't affected at all. They did get affected as the mother and the other caretaker got mad at them as they were constantly crying.
