using garden plot

I have a Sim who needs to up his gardening skills for his career. I have managed to get him to level 3 just by reading books and doing computer research. However, the garden plot he has only allows "purchase seeds" and once purchased, after opening the packet I can't plant the seeds. He cannot actually garden! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

@clayslinger, are you trying to plant them from the Sim's Inventory , or have you dragged the seeds to the planters or the ground and then tried to direct him to plant them?  🤔You will have to drag the seeds to where you want him to plant them for them to be planted.🙂

Also do you have the Season EP? 🤔 If you do, then is the ground too cold for planting?  If the temperature is too cold you can't plant any seeds unless you plant them indoors , otherwise you have to wait for the weather to warm up. 🙂

  • Hi @clayslinger  :D If you purchased the seeds, you'll have the package of seeds in your inventory. Drag it into the world from your inventory and click open. The seeds from the package will again appear in your inventory. Drag them onto soil, or onto a garden box and click plant. What I recently learned is that if a garden box has multiple seeds you want to plant, you only have to give the plant command once and your sim will continue to plant all nearby seeds! What's also fun is harvesting flowers, herbs, fruits from nearby bushes/trees. The harvested product shows in your inventory and you can again drag it onto a garden box to plant your own. In that case, no need to purchase seeds 🙂 One more thing on this topic: during harvest fest, some gnomes will appear around your house. If you can please the gnomes well, they give you some gifts and in my experience they were always giving various very nice seed packages. Enjoy the gardening 🙂

  • When I open the seed packets I immediately have the vegetable, fruit, herb or whatever in my inventory. The icon for "plant" is not highlighted so I can put it in the world but then the only action for my sim to do with it is eat it.

I know I've planted before with another sim in another world so I don't know why this guy is different.

I don't have the Seasons add on so it's not that.

    Thanks for your help.

Be sure you are placing them on the ground or in a planter box.
Test by being on your own lot. Which lot / world are you in when you try to plant?
Some pre-built lots use flooring that looks like terrain paint. I was fooled by more than one of these.

Mods or cc might also interfere. Are you on console, PC or Mac?

  • @clayslingerIt's easy. Once you open the packet, you'll have various food or flowers in your inventory.

If you are outside, just place it on the ground (dirt or grass, not a tile) You can also use a planter to plant indoors or outdoors. Although Trees require some room.

Just drag like an onion onto the ground or a planter and click on it while it's on the ground. You should get the option to "Plant". Click on that and you're done.

Just make sure to Water it!

@EuphorialQueen, thanks for mentioning the terrain paint that looks like grass or dirt 💡... I didn't think of that! 🤭

@clayslinger, Is this problem only happening with the one household ?  Have you tried other households.  And does the same thing happen if you are playing a different Save Game file?🤔  I ask this because it sounds like either your Sim, or the family, or the house/lot might be glitching.  But if you get the same result in a different save game file or in a different house/lot then something else is going on. 🤨
And like @EuphorialQueen  asked , please tell us if you use Mods or Custom Content (CC) as outdated Mods/CC can cause problems too, so we have to look into that if you use them. 😇
