I think that a lot of people don't understand how common head coverings are and are making this way too much of a thing. It's just clothing. The Sims is a global game. People play it everywhere. Islam isn't a minor religion. It's huge. There are literally billions of people who practice the religion or who live near people who do or in places influenced by it and a bunch of them play the Sims. Players have been asking for head coverings for years, much in the same way that players on these English Sims forums were begging for toddlers. This update was hugely requested, not a little thing for a minor population or virtue signaling. Not having the clothing in the game was like not having pants or skirts or shirts to many. The scarves obviously have some religious connotations, but in many places it's transcended that and they're just another piece of clothing you wear - just like how people don't go out without pants/bottoms/skirts on because that's culturally inappropriate/weird, in some places women cover their heads. It doesn't have to be that deep.
Obviously, some places oppress women, but a lot of women calling for the addition of scarves don't experience that kind of extreme thing, are not that religious, and just want to play the game with hijabs/head coverings without having to rely on CC because this clothing is everyday wear for them. It's just a normal clothing item like socks etc. (that they don't have to wear, but that people do wear because they like how it looks or it reflects their values or whatever) so it's good to include it as an update. It just seems weird because in Western culture, there isn't really any equivalent.
