Advice regarding Vampire career needed, please

I'm playing a vampire for the first time in TS4. She's a teen right now, and my plan was to have her go into the Detective career when she is done with Uni. She's a "good" vampire, and fighting crime seems like a good vampiry thing to do.

I've also never played a Detective in the game before, and it just occurred to me that being vulnerable to sunlight might not work so good when doing that particular active career. I didn't plan on giving her sunlight immunity.

So..my question is, would I regret going into that career? I've never played a Doctor before either, so that's my other option. I'm avoiding spoilers for both careers, but I have to imagine doctor is always going to be indoors whereas a detective...probably not?

  • My vampire detective uses the "detect personality" power so that he doesn't have to chat suspects up to see if they have the right traits. I also enjoy watching him interrogate people in the interrogation room, because he doesn't have a reflection and for some reason this amuses me.

    Spoiler

Awesome! The detect personality power was the very first one I took for her, so much quicker than needing to socialize with people to learn their traits. I had read that the "observant" trait was good for detectives in a thread about what traits people like, I've avoided spoilers for the career ever since it came out...somehow... but some tidbits still come through when they are in threads not actually about the career itself.

The no reflection thing is a nice touch for the game, that screenshot entertains me too, you aren't alone.

@Stormkeep I really love the Detective Career since day one, I played it a lot with human sims... but with a vampire is so different, the best!

But I'm playing with a Vampire with the full sun resistance (All my master vampires do not care about the sun lol they are perfect). They are some tasks that will not work very well with a weak vampire.

One of the best part of playing a vampire as a detective is that my other vampires go to the police station instead of human sims lol Vampires suffer the injustice too:

A little TIP: do not stay to work late, there is a glitch: you will not be able to return home later ;) your sim will be trap, to free him/her you will need to switch households.
  • Thanks for the additional tips, @Emere! It will be a while before my vamp enters the career, she still has a week left of being a teen and then will go to University first. I have 7 households in my rotation and rotate once per week, so it's going to be a while yet.

@SilentKitty, My witch sim who runs the potion shop learned what she needed to make the sun protection drinks and it also turns out that Copypasto works on them. I now have a very good supply in the LICE retail refrigerator at her shop already and it will be easy to maintain the supply. Thank you so much for that suggestion.

This is admirable. I've never started a career without reading an overview from Carl's Guide. I like to know what to expect, what the rewards are, etc.

Thank you :) my main sim and his wife are going to build a bakery. I was so inspired by your little retail store with cakes that I decided to make my own. First day in the culinary career starts in one day.
  • Going on patrol might be difficult unless you use a mask or drink as sunblock. Umbrella may work, but they might have to stop using it when actually issuing citations.

Taking crime scene photos outside will be a pain too, but if you do all the inside things first, you may have enough evidence without going there. It depends on the scene, some have more evidence than others.
