I hate having a negative spirit towards my favorite gaming franchise, but I have to say, I totally agree with you OP. There's been a tendency ever since the release of The Sims 4 to give us smaller and smaller packs, that just fill out smaller portions of gameplay.
For instance, they could've given us a Vacation expansion with 3 (or more) vacation spots, tons of clothes, building designs, interior that would fit those spots and different sets of activities for each spot (I'm reminded of TS2: Bon Voyage, where they did this), instead they come up with "game packs" that have by now given us two vacation spots, with marginally less interior, clothing and activities for each spot. The possibilites for these vacations are endless, but still they chose to give us 2-3 things to do pr pack, instead of a huge pack (that would cost more, sure) that would've completed one style of play (vacations/traveling).
I see this tendency with most other packs in TS4 as well. They keep dividing up the categories(travel, work, pets etc) into different packs, which makes it in total look like there's a ton of stuff to do, but in reality it's a lot less content than previous games. Nothing feel finished anymore, you know? God knows how many more vacation spots they're gonna come up with, that gives us 1 piece of clothing, 1 hairstyle, 1 new couch and the option to do 1 more thing in that new world.
I hate complaining as this is my favorite game, but everytime they announce a new pack, the first thing I notice is that it just feels rushed, money driven and not like it used to be. I've put in several thousand hours into this franchise and it's just sad to feel disappointed everytime there's a new pack.
I don't even care about WHAT kind of pack it is anymore or how much it costs, it could be anything, just please.. give us.. MORE.
The Sims has always been one of my favorite video games ever, so I understand the pain as well... but it gets so infuriating! Especially when previous games (especially Sims 2) were more about pleasing the players, as opposed to simply just making money. To be honest, I cannot think of a single criticism about any of the expansion or stuff packs that were released for Sims 2 when it comes to features and content. Those packs were filled with new things to do every time. It was never lacking. Sims 3 was almost the same, but more of a hit or miss with each pack. But it was still much better than what we're getting now.
I mean, there needs to be an end to how much we can tolerate until we start saying enough is enough. I honestly can't take much more of their greediness. This upcoming stuff pack is seriously infuriating to even think about. And it'll probably be the first one I'll skip completely... even if it does go on sale. It's not worth the price... and it never will be.
Sims 1, Sims 2, and Sims 3 all had pet expansion packs... and each one was filled with new types of animals (dogs, cats, small animals, etc)... then suddenly Sims 4 decided to release a Cats & Dogs expansion pack that only included cats and dogs... and now we officially know why this happened in the first place. It's because they probably planned this all along. But it says A LOT about how greedy they've become when even past games didn't pull something even remotely similar to this. It's just like how Sims 4 apartments require a loading screen to simply visit our neighbors, but even Sims 2 didn't require a loading screen for that.
