I hate it too. It is one of the more annoying things that sims do.
Or when your sim stars dating somebody. It's only hilarious when it's someone your sim is already dating saying I heard you started dating so and so congrats. Shouldn't they be jealous or something? I think the only time this should happen is if your sim has completed Serial Romantic aspiration and earned the Player trait otherwise the sim your sim is dating should be furious and call your sim a lying cheating and threaten to break up with them.
