Anyone else concerned by the way Sims 4 is being broken up and sold?

So... I was willing to let it go when they released vampires as a separate game pack, since I figured if they were going to split the supernatural states up and have them as thoroughly fleshed out as that in separate packs. Then I could only buy the packs I'm interested in and not have to deal with the supernatural states I don't care for. However, that means paying more than what they would have been worth as a set of states in a single expansion pack. I'd get only the 2-3 states I like, but then it'd still cost me the same $40 or even more than if I'd had just gotten the standard all-inclusive expansion.

I accepted that some features like laundry and butlers were just never coming for me, since they decided to put them into stuff packs rather than expansions, and even with the additional gameplay content, stuff packs just aren't worth the money to me... I can see trying to make stuff packs more "worth it", but I'd have very much preferred if they had created NEW content to incorporate into these packs, rather than simply redistributing content that had previously been part of full expansions, or even included in free updates. All this does and take content away from the expansions, making them seem smaller than they should be, and annoy the ever-living crap out of a lot of fans like myself.

I was unhappy with the smaller pets pack, especially considering it was the same price for significantly less content than in the Sims 3 Pets pack, but let it go since it did at least seem to flesh out the cats and dogs a bit more in some aspects...

I found the Jungle pack insulting, since they are clearly just splitting up a "World Adventures" type of expansion pack into different game packs. First we have a camping destination, now a jungle adventure... What next? And does that mean we'll be paying $20 for each destination? Assuming there are 3 destinations like in the "World Adventures" and "Bon Voyage" packs of the sims 3 and 2, that means we'll have paid $60 by the time this is done, for what was once a $40 expansion... Again, I don't mind the idea of being able to buy only the destinations I would want to utilize, but not if it means paying the same or more than if I had simply gotten an all-inclusive expansion.

Then "My First Pets" came out. I didn't pay it much mind at first, since I never get stuff packs anyway... but I've been hearing more and more about it and now I'm beyond insulted. I hate to do this to a series I've loved and supported for so long, but I've refused to give EA any more of my money.

After 3 years the SIMS 4 still feels so horribly incomplete that I find myself turning on The Sims 3 far more often. Heck I enjoy myself while playing Sims Medieval more than this disappointment.

It's not to say that the Sims 4 is bad... it's not. For what it is, I DO like playing... but the expectations and standards set by previous iterations are NOT being met here for multiple reasons. I think this piecemeal approach with the packs is part of the problem. What do you all think?

Well this thread has taken an interesting turn. All I will say is I’m married to a game developer and while he won’t deny the sims isn’t easy to make, he doesn’t fall over himself praising them either. What he has saw of the sims 4 he is amazed by the low textures on certain items (cough ball pit cough) and in excusable corner cutting during game play. Let’s just say their reputation in his studio is not a positive one.

Colossal order were going to make cities skylines regardless of sim city or not. But their demise did help.

I actually own the Movies game. It’s not a life simulator. Its more a business/management game.

Competition for the sims is what it needs. It’s very easy to get complacent when you don’t have any direct competition vying for your audience.

Excellent post from @Sk8rblaze. I agree with every word. That’s the problem with this pack and what it represents. That’s the root of it and what it will always come back to no matter how often the thread is de railed.

  • Hello all,

Thank you all very much for your thoughts and input on this.

However, I do feel this conversation is going around in circles and is causing a lot of frustration for all involved.

With this in mind I will be closing this thread.

    Thank you again,
