Are these two (Sims) incompatible? UPDATED with LOLs

My version of a Teen Runaway challenge. Carmen lives in the tent, but Johnny Zest (aged to Teen) is essentially a runaway also.
They became friends as teenagers.

As fresh Young Adults, they have combined their resources and are living in the trailer; off the grid. But, despite some very casual flirting while they were still teens, these two don't seem to accept each others Romantic advances now they live together.
Admittedly there are some yoyo-ing moods because of everything associated with being dirt poor and off the grid, but...

are they just incompatible Sims? Their friendship bar is near maxed out. I have more than once got both of them in a decent mood and still the conversations end up in awkward embarrasment.

Have you experienced Sims that just don't click? Do I need to get University to interfere and split them up??
What would you suggest?

  • I have noticed that sometimes my sim will have an interest and it changes or that other sim changes, if I make them only friends then try again sometimes it works out (sometimes it doesnt) so there may be some compatability, I think sims change a bit over time too, at least it seems like that to me. I know I can delete my sim from a game and put her back in and she wont act the same way, have same love interests (except for a small few who seem to always have the same one even if i make 100 new games with them in it), good luck
  • I have noticed compatibility being an issue when pursuing romantic interest. A lot of my sims seem to have a type and sometimes they don't click with who I originally plan for them which can be frustrating, but it all also adds some drama and surprise to the game which I've been wanting.
  • Thanks!
@smurfy77 I guess Sims do change. See below...
@DentalchickJulia, I don’t often have a future partner in mind for my Sims. I either create them with an established partner or have them open to someone who comes along organically. At least this (usually) keeps the disappointment/frustration down.
I had just decided I didn’t mind a little drama and that it actually played in to my story quite nicely when this happened...

...so I’m playing with a single air bed in the bedroom along with the used double futon. Hard to say who got the short straw there, but Johnny was on the air bed.
Next morning, Carmen goes for breakfast and Johnny has a bathroom break. Johnny is in the shower when Candice finishes eating and comes in a little early for her turn in the bathroom.

The look on her face was classic

She even got a squeamish specific, nausea moodlet from the privacy violation in addition to the normal one.
Thing is, after that, and once they got over the worst of it, Candice has a whim to flirt with Johnny. They start talking. I go for the flirt. Then Johnny makes a move on the couch. Candice retaliates with a tickle...

And their suddenly zinging like extras from Hotel Transylvania. <3

I guess they/Candice was just being shy before. :D
  • Seriously!! I have Candice ask Johnny to officially be her boyfriend and he rejects it. Clearly these two are NOT on the same page yet. :o

I have also just noticed that Carmen has the noncommittal trait, but that shouldn’t have made Johnny reject her should it??
  • Some sims are just too hard to be flirted with, especially when they already have significant others, or they used to be your ex.
  • I experience the same, @NRowe

I can't find any other reason than that some Sims just don't click romantically.
