This will sound weird, but the only reason I can enjoy the Sims 4 is because it's so much more simple than Sims 2 and 3.
What I mean by that is...my playstyle is I try to build the town. Not really into making buildings or venues, but I try to build the town up by populating it one sim at a time. In Sims 2 I enjoyed doing this, but found I never made it past generation II because at that point there was a population spike and it was simply too much to do to try and age all the sims up individually by playing them. In Sims 3, I simply didn't have that option at all, but at least I had plenty of content.
Sims 4, content-wise, is pretty bad. Therefore, I keep myself entertained by making more and more sims. It's not about individual sims for me, it's about the progression of the town as a whole. Seeing which families survive, seeing which sims truly set themselves apart from the others by feeling unique or being capable of doing a lot, etc etc. It's entertaining at times, but it also gets kind of tedious, so even with such a monumental task on my plate, I tend to get bored of the game fairly regularly, taking long breaks before returning to try and make progress again.
