I still don't get how it would have been so much better if babies weren't tied to their bassinets. You can't do anything with them really, and even IF they're moveable, they would just end up on the floor like in TS3 and simmers would complain again.
To me, improving the baby is about adding realism. Which was pretty much the same argument for laundry and that pack was made.
When you have a baby, there is plenty to do with them and I wish that we could see those things in the game. In particular, I would love to see things like holding a baby while another Sim greets or plays with them. The show off baby interaction in TS4 disappointed me so much.
Sims should also incorporate babies into their everyday interactions. Carry them while speaking on the phone, setting the table, or greeting visitors. It should be seamless. If the baby is fussing and the Sims need to finish an assignment, sit them down with the baby in their lap while they get back to work. If the Sims are relaxing, add the baby to that too. I think that it would be sweet to see a Sim sitting and watching television while playing with the baby in their lap. Or, to see a Sim fall asleep in a chair with a baby cradled in their arms. And I would pay good money for a Sim to be able to sit down in order to breast feed. Watching them stand to do so always rubs me wrong. The natural inclination is to sit, if at all possible.
I also don't understand the assumption that babies will necessarily be left all over the floor. The programming could make it so that babies are not set down in inappropriate places. They would need to be placed in the crib, the middle of a bed, a stroller, a bouncy chair, a swing, a play mat. There are so many ways to get around that original issue.
