I think the boredom is probably coming from a Lifestyle, not the Adventurous trait. Likely culprits are Adrenaline Seeker and Frequent Traveler.
I get the moodlet with my one Adventurous sim and I have Lifestyles turned off. That said, I did have them on for a while, but she was still getting the moodlet before the lifestyle kicked in.
