I like DO. My sims's don't own/ operate but I like to take them out to eat. I'd say love DO, but wont because it's broken.
I don't recall it being broken when I bought it years ago. There were game mechanics I didn't like (food took too long, food should be better quality) but it wasn't technically broken. The only positive change I've noticed is that fun doesn't get tanked anymore when in the restaurant.
In DO now, I need a mod to make them sit down to eat. I need to do reset cheats on the chefs. I need to design the restaurants so that they can't talk across tables, so they actually socialize with the sims at their table. I need to make sure the wait stations are perfectly placed. I need to mod the game so that sims can't view any objects so that they don't get up from the table and start staring at a sign on the wall. Or don't have any viewable objects in the restaurant and gain environment with too many rugs. I can't use stereos or wall speakers.
I'm not including new things (new meaning since the early days of the pack) that seem by design that I detest and workaround with cheats. You know, I'm not sure what is by design half the time. For all I know, some of the things I mentioned aren't considered bugs. But I consider them bugs because, to me, they break the pack, since sim can't...um Dine Out due to distractions.
@Cinebar I remember losing saves awhile back because they were somehow gettting overwritten with very old saves that I deleted. I always use Save As so that shouldn't have happened. Those old saves were supposed to be deleted. I had to start over, with 3 different familes. Not sure if you're talking about that or another time. Right now while tweaking base saves I noticed that the incorrect family icons are attached to the save. At least they saves themselves are fine, but that's just...well concerning to me given the past.
A long time ago started my first legacy save in TS4. I think Right after I switched to play the adult children, and update broke my save. I had no CC at the time and the few mods I had were updated. I haven't made a legacy family since.
It's frustrating that a lot of my time goes to putting fixes into my game, much is still broken outside of DO. I didn't do a count, but I'd guess that around 33% or so of my mods are fixes. Mods which I need to check for updates every time the game updates. Sometimes I stop playing for awhile because I spend so much time installing or updating mods that I feel Sims oversatuartion or something I need to play another game.
Another thing I noticed right away was there are things in the 'pie menus' of choices for the Sim to do when clicking on a different Sim or our own or an object etc. or even lot traits etc. that aren't possible...because those were features of DLC someone might not own or have installed. What? Yes, why is this acceptable in a life simulator? That's just sloppy programming in my opinion. It may be very convenient to Maxis to just go ahead and include things from other packs into options so it will be there when a player does buy another pack with those features but that is more like mobile games or Free To Play games where yes, there might be an option listed for something but not possible until the person buys into the microtransactions...but at least those games tell you what microtransaction you need to buy or level up or something (with points and or money) to be able to do that, but it makes absolutely no sense at all in life simulator, especially if the options aren't even grayed out!
I think I was clicking and clicking something for the Sim to do but released, wait, that isn't possible unless I own x pack etc. I think they should clean up the code and stop putting in unnecessary code especially when the player doesn't actually have a pack. The base game wedding venue choice is a very good example of what I'm talking about...but there are a lot more things I noticed (but can't remember at the moment) that shouldn't even be seen by the player if it can't be done. How annoying!
