Businesses and Hobbies: My Ideas

To be honest, this is more of a BUSINESS than HOBBY pack. Tattoos aren't, IMO, a hobby as much as a job you do. You don't sit around at home tattooing yourself or others, do you? Pottery is a hobby. It could start in your garage with you learning to throw and move to selling things from your garage and, eventually, opening a shop. Candy making? Is that a hobby or just a thing you do. So, with only one true hobby, I wish they had given us a few more hobbies. I would have liked, pool tables (10 years, really?) golf tee for practicing your swing (the only driving we'll ever get), ballet bar, fixer-upper car, sky diving simulator, Scuba diving (which could be done in your own pool or a public diving pool), arcade games (pinball, whack-a-mole, the claw, test of strength, etc.). Hopefully, these will MAGICALLY appear in a KIT or two SOON! HINT! HINT!

With this pack, we can tattoo, throw pottery and make candy, each in a shop. They also offered ideas for cross-pack integration with Pet Cafe, Dance Club, Karaoke venue, teach acting, massage, yoga, gym. laundry and bowling. Some of these can be combined into one venue such as massage, yoga and gym. I created a laundry, bowling alley when bowling dropped. As seen in the trailer, tattoos and pottery. Classes and teaching can be added to most of these.

I decided to go through my packs (I do not have every single one but, most). Here's a list of skills and shops that I thought could be created.

Design Center (DHD), Photo Studio (GTW/Mos), Arcade (GT/DU), Poker Parlor (CCave), Hookah bar (CL), Small pets (C&D/L&D/MFP/or any collectable like frogs, etc,), Roller/ice Rinks, Beauty Parlor (GF), Bot Shop (DU), candle shop (ECO), Fizzy (ECO/HR) Hot Springs Spa (SE), Comedy Club (Base/HS), Movie Theater (MH), Fortune Teller (L&D/Para), Jewelry (CrysCrea), Bistro (CB), Artist Studio (AS), Woodworking (Base), Cafeteria (HS/DU).

Many of these could be combined. When Movie Hangout dropped, I created a theater using a cafe in the lobby. I would send my Sim and create a group of all the other sims and we, as a group, would sit and watch movies. It was technically a cafe with a theater attached but, with the ticket machine, you can charge for simply entering your lot. An arcade with games (few as they are) on the bottom floor and possibly ping pong tables and foosball tables on the second floor with perhaps a bar.

Could it be time for the Whipped Dream Cupcake Factory to make a reappearance in the candy shop?

Also, once useless Magnolia Promenade could become an epic shopping/crafting center. You could create a gym/spa/yoga/onsen springs on that large 40x30 lot with a family living above. A shop with three areas could fit on the 30x20. A shop with two areas could easily fit on either 20x20 lot. You could leave one 20x20 lot as a festival spot for craft tables and food kiosks as MP has no "festival area" unless they add it before the drop.

Well, those are a few of my ideas. If you can think of any others or an interesting combo of skills, add it below.

BE WARNED: I have dibs on the name Harry Pottery. Don't mess with me fellas. 🤣

  • Trying to organize my ideas, and knowing this pack will add loads to my game, but at the moment I have too many questions to move on with my plans. Like, can  we sell from the catalog, or can we only sell items "made by owner/employee"? I expect some restriction, to separate this new feature from the GTW's retail system. I'll be fine with some restrictions, but I need to know them before sealing my plans.

I've made a list of household that might be interested in running a family business ar home. A few of them already does with the help of the sales table, and some of those will just keep using that table. But I'm looking forward to going a tad bigger on some residential lots.

This pack seems to be all about adding business to residential lots, but I also will enjoy adding 2nd story residential unit to many of my existing community lots. It will raise the population of some hoods, ie in Magnolia Promenade. Expecting some old community lot businesses to not work with the new system, and I wish I knew more about that already.

My only super safe plan is that I will build a few standard shop on groundfloor and living upstairs lots in Newcrest. Building them without a specific business in  mind might be fun, because then the future owner must adjust their idea to the build, and not the other way around.

I also want to know how these unit businesses will work when playing another household visiting as customers. Hoping for answers in today's gameplay video :)

  • I'm not sure who is going to own all the businesses I have ideas for. This is going to pull a lot of my seniors out of retirement to mentor and open up shops.

Some ideas that came to me
-a drag bar and art hub. My drag bar in game with just Get Together is boring
-a ski instructors cabin and then off season they live some place hot
-winterfest lot worked only during the winter season. My sims come to sell winterfest related pottery, sweets and cakes, art.
-I really want to makeover Mt Komorebi and Magnolia Promenade.

I wonder if they can finally make the eco bug fuel sellable in this type of shop, it's a small object that can sit on a shelf. So curious about everything we'll be able to sell.

Definitely when I first get the game, with a new save, I'll play the evil branch. That's one of those features I'm not sure about for my main save but I still want to try it.

I want to try and have an operating business and then sell it or close shop and have someone else move in and start a new business. Playing the same business might get boring but with the ability to move another sim into tat space with a different skill, could be fun. Or maybe a gay couple with a duo business for each of their skills, might breakup and one moves out and that half of the business sits idle. Then gay sim meets someone new, and they move in and start a new business in the empty space. A lot of possibilities.

  • I'm planning to turn my residential lot Zoo into a small business. Not sure how it will work as most of this lot is outdoors, but I could probably create outdoor rooms if needed...

  • My hubby is a tattoo artist and he totally tattoos himself or us when the urge hits. I know plenty of artists that do it for a hobby.

  • I think the main Hobbies aspect of this pack is not when playing as a Small Business owner (though you can certainly profit from your hobby with it), but rather the experience when visiting the new lots as a Customer.

Do you have a sim that loves to watch movies? Set up a Cinema as a business. Charge an entry fee (ticket price) and either include free popcorn with the ticket, or set some snacks for sale. Win-win for both owner and customer (your sim gets a real cinema experience, your business owner gets profit). I see this was further down your post.

You love horses, but live in an apartment? Visit a Stable owned by a Horse Breeder/Trainer to socialise with the horses and maybe learn how to ride. Win-win-win for your sim, the Horse Trainer and the horses (your sim gets their horse fix, the owner gets Class fees and the horses get care, attention and maybe skills too.)

Love camping? Want to introduce the kiddos to it without forking out a ton of cash for equipment or a vacation? Visit the local Campground and spend the night under the stars telling stories, fishing and toasting marshmallows. Owner gets your entry fee, kiddos get a fun family memory, the wife comes home with a new loathing of icky things because she gained the Squeamish trait whilst fishing and you are laughing at her because you have the Evil trait. Win-win-loss-win, but you were planning to divorce her anyway.

These are just a couple of examples. A fantastic pack for rotational gameplay/BACC, imo, though you could also set up things to visit for legacy saves too. It's also a great way to try a lot of different hobbies/hangouts and gain new preferences for skills and sims.

  • I'm thinking of making a Medieval Viking in Nord Haven in my Medieval Game Save.  Then a Georgian Pirate in Nord Haven in my Georgian to Victorian Game Save.  Totally love playing historical in my Sims 4.😍

It would be amazing if they added small things that would function as hobbies. I love the idea of pool tables and golf. It would be such a easy addition with skill levels and easy to charge per entrance to a golf course. Tennis same thing but it probably requires a more robust development. Couples dancing as a teachable skill with a dance studio, maybe ballet with a rabbit hole performance. Sculpting would be fantastic as an addition to pottery. You should not say hobbies if you only added one hobby. Glassblowing might have been an addition. Sawing would be cool or maybe shop like car shop etc. Scrapbooking would be a nice hobby addition with memory creations books or objects you can hang on walls. They could have expanded in the candy idea by allowing for gift sets and chocolate boxes. Chocolatier would be a perfect addition. Of course they will add these as future options for additional money but they should have added at least one more hobby to justify it as a hobbies pack. It’s still one of my favorite packs so far. I feel to call it a hobby pack there should be  at least 1. Creative hobby (pottery), 1 physical  (golf or sport not already in game), 1 game/ entertainment (pool), outdoor (birdwatching, kayaking, skydiving, surfing), 1 social (trivia pursuit, dance classes, volunteering) , intellectual (astrology)  then we can talk hobbies (plural)

Yes, I think there should have been more hobbies too, my daughter just mentioned she would have loved a pool table, which I would have liked along with some more arcade games like you mentioned.  I have wanted golf for sometime.  I also would love to be able to see parents throw a baseball to their child,, and ballet or tap for all ages.  And, I would have loved to see sewing ( made rather like tattooing ) where you could have different patterns, and different types of fabrics, be able to create clothing, stuffed animals, bedspreads for beds,  stuffed dolls, and your own curtains…. Things like that, using the same type thing they did with tatoo’s. And how about making toys for children, toddlers and babies?  I would have liked that too.  I do believe we will get cars, I hope that can be a hobby, fixing them up.
